"The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls" is a lovely poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, written at his summer home in Nahant, MA and first published in 1880. When I first set this to music, I was unaware of any other settings out there, and wanted to imbue the words with a hypnotic sense of hope.
